Cosmelan is a specialist depigmentation method. A single in-clinic mask is applied, then a structured home-care plan continues the work. It is used for moderate to severe hyperpigmentation — sun damage, age-related spots, post-inflammatory marks (including after acne) and hormonal pigment such as melasma.
Melasma linked to pregnancy or contraception has often been difficult to shift. Light-based treatments frequently fail on this type of pigment. Cosmelan is different: it fades the colour that is already there, and it also acts on the cells that produce melanin, inhibiting the enzyme tyrosinase so the pigment is less likely to darken again.
The formula is hydroquinone-free and is suitable for all Fitzpatrick skin types. As the pigment settles, the complexion typically looks clearer, tighter and more even, with a healthier glow.
A change is usually visible from around the second week: spots look lighter and less obvious, and the skin looks fresher. There is one clinic visit for the mask. Home care is used for a month before the peel and for six months afterwards.
